Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from two other agencies arrested a man wanted of methamphetamine related charges following a lengthy foot chase Friday afternoon.
Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell said that Clarence Egner, 35, of Woodbine, was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. at a residence behind Kentucky Fried Chicken in southern Laurel County.
Harrell said that Deputy Shawn Jackson, who is investigating the case, was off-duty and spending time with his family when an informant called him, and said, "I know exactly where he is at right now."
Because the location was in southern Laurel County, Jackson contacted the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, which accompanied him to the residence.
When Jackson, Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Chief Deputy Eddie Sizemore, and Deputy James Sizemore arrived, Egner fled from authorities. He was apprehended after what Jackson described as an "extensive" foot pursuit.
Jackson said that Root secured the scene while he and Deputy James Sizemore got in a foot pursuit that lasted between one-quarter and one-half mile.
Jackson said he and Sizemore kept Egner in site the whole time chasing him, which Chief Deputy Eddie Sizemore got in his cruiser and drove to where police anticipated Egner was heading. Eddie Sizemore then apprehended him.
The Corbin Police Department also assisted at the scene, and transported Egner to the Corbin Police Department where Jackson formally charged him with the arrest warrant for manufacture of methamphetamine.
He was later lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Jackson noted that Egner has an "extensive" history of drug related arrested.
Laurel County SheriffÕs Deputy Gilbert Acciardo said that two other people were arrested shortly before 1 p.m. at the Lewis Street residence about 13 miles south of Corbin in connection with the investigation.
Laurel County SheriffÕs deputies charged Darrell Moran, 31, and Barbara Shelton, 51, both of Bauer Drive, Corbin, with second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension, and lodged them in the Laurel County Detention Center.
EgnerÕs arrest warrant stems from a meth lab bust that Jackson, Corbin police and the Kentucky State Police conducted at Mountain View Lodge in Corbin on Feb. 11.
Jackson was investigating an anonymous complaint about methamphetamine manufacturing at the motel, and discovered 10 active one-step meth labs in a motel room.
Three people were arrested at the scene, but Egner fled the scene before he could be apprehended, police said.
