A Corbin couple allegedly tried to flush a meth lab down the toilet Friday afternoon when police showed up at their door to investigate a complaint.
About 3:40 p.m., officers from three agencies went to a residence at 114 Turner Subdivision Road in Corbin to investigate a complaint about a possible meth lab, said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.
Harrell said that when officers showed up at the residence, they could immediately detect the "obvious smell" of methamphetamine, and that the occupants of the home allegedly tried to flush the meth lab down the toilet.
Task Force 11, which is headquartered in London and headed up by Abbey Hale, dismantled the meth lab. Police were on the scene for about two and one-half hours, Harrell said.
Police charged Sherry Lawson, 40, and Jason Swearengin, 37, with manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia,conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and tampering with physical evidence.
Both were arrested without incident, and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Officers taking part in the investigation, include: Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Pace, Deputy Brian Lawson, Corbin Police Officer Rusty Hedrick, and Two Rivers Task Force Officer Bob O’Neil.
No one was injured during the investigation.
