COLONELS TOP CARDS

Date:

It’s been a long time coming, but the Whitley County Colonels have beaten Coach Steve Wright’s South Laurel Cardinals.

The Colonels (3-0) got the road win Tuesday night, beating the Cardinals, 69-59.

Whitley County jumped out to a 13-8 lead and threatened to break the game open in the second when they doubled up the score on South Laurel, 28-14.

However, the Cardinals went on a 12-3 run and cut the lead to 31-26 at the half.

The Cardinals sliced that lead to three early in the third quarter, but a 19-9 run to end the period allowed Whitley County a 50-38 lead at the end of the period.

The Colonels opened up a 19-point lead early in the final period, but South Laurel rallied behind Blake Sanders to cut the lead to eight before Donnie Butcher hit two free throws to account for the final margin.
