ONLY ONLINE: Three juveniles arrested for string of Corbin vehicle break-ins

Date:

Three Corbin juveniles have been arrested and are accused of a spree of auto break-ins that have taken place over the last two weeks.

According to Corbin Police Detective Bill Rose the three juvenile boys, ages 17, and two 16-year-olds were arrested early Monday morning all charged with receiving stolen property, along with fleeing and evading police.

Rose said the boys are suspected in numerous thefts from automobiles that started in the Madison Ave. and 11th Street areas last week and culminated in a string of similar break ins Sunday and early Monday along Barton Mill Road and in the Oaklawn area.

The three boys were spotted walking along Barton Mill Road around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning carrying numerous items. Rose said Corbin Police Officer Matt Conley tried to talk to the boys to find out what they were doing and they fled.

"Anytime we see somebody out at that time of night we always try to stop and talk to them and see what they are doing," Rose said. "One of the boys is someone we deal with quite often."

Police waited at one of the boy’s homes and all three showed up there a short time later. A search turned up numerous items stolen from vehicles – watches, GPS units, wallets, cash, a $300 Coach purse, a satellite radio, CDs, cell phones, etc.
Authorities believe every single car the boys broke into was unlocked.

"People simply not locking their cars, and leaving valuable items in them, was one of the problems," said Corbin Police Officer Jim Miller. "People need to make sure they lock their vehicles at night. That should be a priority."

The boys, whose names are not available since they are juveniles, are also possible suspects in some burglaries as well, Rose said.
