Merl L. “M.L” Carpenter, 91, of Lot Mud Creek Road, Williamsburg, departed this life on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home.

He was born on March 14, 1926 in Whitley County, to the late Beckham Carpenter and Amanda (Lawson) Carpenter.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosey Lee Carpenter.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Carpenter of Athens, TN; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Rooks of Williamsburg; special nephew, Willard Carpenter of Williamsburg; special cousin, Arvil Carpenter of Williamsburg; special friend, Peggy Partin of Williamsburg; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 16, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ewell “Jamup” Lawson and Rev. Ronnie Rose officiating.

Following the service he was laid to rest in the Lot Cemetery at Mud Creek.
