Pedestrian killed in southern Laurel County early Sunday

A pedestrian is dead following a single vehicle accident in southern Laurel County early Sunday morning.

Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced the pedestrian, Chadwick Smith, 32, of War Branch, dead at the scene, according a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department release.

The traffic fatality happened about 2:21 a.m. on US25 approximately seven miles south of London.

Sheriff’s investigators report that Roger Roark, 69, of London, was apparently driving a silver colored F250 pick-up truck north on US25 when he struck Smith on an unlit road in the northbound travel lane causing the fatal injury, the release noted.

Roark wasn’t injured in the crash.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy and Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Brad Mink, and deputies Tommy Houston and Bo Harris investigated the crash.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad and Lily Volunteer Fire Department all assisted at the scene.

Mink is continuing the investigation.
