$500K scratch-off lottery winner sold in Corbin

Date:

A big lottery prize was scratched off in Corbin recently as an Eastern Tennessee man purchased what turned out to be a $500,000 winning ticket at Mega Mart on Master Street.

According to Kentucky Lottery officials, the man, who elected to remain anonymous, was running errands in Corbin on Dec. 12 when he initially purchased two tickets.

“I just had a feeling about this ticket and knew I needed to get another one,” he told lottery officials.

The man purchased a $20 Money Limited Edition ticket that offered cash prizes of up to $500,000.

After matching the number 39, the man scratched off the prize amount that revealed the ticket was worth $500,000.

“It was unreal. It was so hard to believe. I got to thinking, what do I do with it now,” he told lottery officials.

The man contacted the lottery office and made an appointment for Dec. 14 to claim the prize.

After taxes, the man took home a check for $355,000.

The owners of Mega Mart will win as well for selling the ticket.

Lottery officials said they will be receiving a $5,000 bonus.
