Woman airlifted after possible drowning at Spillway Thursday afternoon

A woman who nearly drowned at the Laurel Lake Spillway was airlifted from a makeshift landing zone at the Corbin Speedway Thursday afternoon. According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Officer Floyd Maggard, the incident is still under investigation and few details could be released. Officer Maggard did confirm that the woman was coherent before being airlifted out, but could not provide any identifying information or where she was being transported to. The News Journal received unofficial reports that the woman was 42 years old. More information will be available at a later time. Assisting at the scene was Whitley County EMS, Oak Grove Fire Department, Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department and PHI Helicopter.
