Corbin Recycling Center temporarily closed for repairs

Date:

On Tuesday, folks who were hoping to drop off recyclables after the long weekend were out of luck in Corbin as the city’s recycling center had to be temporarily closed due to equipment failure.

According to City Manager Marlon Sams, the recycling center’s large compactor, which is the machine that forms recyclables into large bales so that they can be sold, has gone down.

“It is looking like next Monday (June 25) before we will be able to re-open,” Sams said, explaining that the necessary replacement parts have already been ordered, and are currently en route.

As for what citizens should do with their recyclables until the repairs to the baler are complete, Sams is urging that everyone please simply hold on to those materials, or throw them in the trash if that isn’t possible.

“We can’t take anything else right now,” Sams said, stressing that the facility is currently full, and there is simply nowhere else to put additional waste at the moment.

The city will inform citizens as soon as the Corbin Recycling Center is back up and fully operational.
