Arby’s owners buy abandoned south Corbin gas station

After sitting vacant since the new location opened, the former Speedway gas station on Cumberland Falls Hwy. is under new ownership.

However, plans for the property remain guarded.

According to a deed filed Jan. 13 with the Whitley County Clerk, BBM-I Properties, LLC purchased the building from Speedway Superamerica LLC for $750,000.

BBM-I Properties is owned and operated by John Bowling and is based out of Barbourville.

A web search for John Bowling in Barbourville turned up Bowling Enterprises at 110 Knox Street.

The individual who answered to the phone referred to the organization as, “Bowling Enterprises.”

That individual stated that John Bowling was not available, but referred the call to Lynn Taylor.

Taylor would neither confirm nor deny that the company had purchased the property.

According to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s website, Bowling is also listed as one of the managers of BBM Restaurants, LLC.

Information on the Secretary of State’s website indicates that the company that owns the Arby’s Restaurant in London was changed from “Arby’s of London” to “BBM Restaurants, LLC in 2008.

The property still contains the store along with the islands for the gas pumps. However, the gas tanks were removed.

Under the terms of the sales agreement outlined in the deed, the new owners are prohibited from using the property for a convenience store, coffee shop or dollar store for a period of 25 years from the date the deed was finalized..

In addition the new owner may not sell gasoline, tobacco products, or packaged alcohol.

The property may be used to house a restaurant.

“Under no circumstances shall the premises be used for a coffee house or coffee/donut shop (such as Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Caribou Coffee, etc.)”
