Baptist Health Corbin staff donates blood to close centennial service

Date:

Baptist Health Corbin staff, providers and others recently rolled up their sleeves to give the gift of life for the holidays, donating 20 units of blood as part of the health system’s centennial celebration.

The hospital partnered with Central Kentucky Blood Center to host a blood drive for both its employees and community members. The event was held in the Trillium Center gymnasium.

“As we come together today to support this life-saving cause, remember that every donation has the potential to change a life. Your generosity brings hope to those in need and makes a real difference in our community. Thank you for being a part of this mission – together, we can give the gift of life,” said Debbie Hardin, Baptist Health Corbin.

The winter months are when blood is most needed as holiday celebrations, illness and poor weather can deter donors.

In 2024, Baptist Health celebrates its 100th anniversary and is marking each month with a health-related “gift” to its communities, referred to as “100 Days of Service.”

In November patients from the southeastern Kentucky region participated in a special event hosted by Baptist Health Corbin offering lung cancer screening exams at their new diagnostic center off the Cumberland Gap Parkway in east Corbin. Baptist Health Corbin was one of hundreds of imaging centers across the country that opened their doors to take part in the Third Annual Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Day, which occurs on the second Saturday in November.

The original Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville opened its doors in November 1924 following years of rallying community support and fundraising. Baptist Health has since expanded to nine hospitals and more than 2,700 licensed beds, reaching nearly 75 percent of Kentucky residents and a wide swath of southern Indiana.

Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed, acute care facility providing a wide variety of healthcare services to residents of Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Clay, Harlan and McCreary counties in Kentucky and Campbell County in Tennessee.
