Gene Comer

Gene Comer, 84, departed this life on April 30 following a lingering illness. His loss is deeply mourned by his family and many friends. Gene was well known and respected in the Corbin community. Gene was born in Jackson County, WV, and served in the United States Air Force. After leaving the service he worked for the Baldwin Piano and Organ Company in Cincinnati, after which he joined the L&N railroad which later became part of the CSX railroad company. Gene worked in the communications department and managed maintenance on all microwave communication towers in his district.  Mr. Comer retired from the railroad in 1994. Ernest “LA” Carpenter, 84, of the Harps Creek Community, Siler, departed this life on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born on June 28, 1932 in Williamsburg, to the late George Carpenter and Nora Siler Carpenter. Johnny Lejeune Beavers, 80, of Williamsburg, went to be with The Lord on Sunday April 30, 2017 at his residence. Johnny served his county proudly in the United States Army from 1960-1966. He was a long-time member of the Jellico Church of God Mountain Assembly. Johnny is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Beavers, father, Johnnie Beavers, and his brother, Arnold Beavers. Patsy Dean Maiden Teague, 84 of Jellico, TN passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at the U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born August 17, 1932 in Eagan, TN. She was a long-time and active member of First Baptist Church of Jellico and shared her love of music as a member of the church choir.  She enjoyed providing many social activities for the seniors at church, The Young at Heart.  For many years, she and others from the church provided a Sunday morning devotion at the Towers in Jellico. Born May 20, 1925, in Woodbine, she was the daughter of the late Obed and Nettie Poynter.
