The event, which is hosted by the Whitley County Health Department, featured a variety of community partners handing out treats as well as information on responsible gun ownership.      

W’Burg Ind. hosts Halloween Bash for students last week

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT Williamsburg Independent School held a Halloween Bash for students last Thursday, where they could dress up in costume and walk through the school collecting candy from their costumed teachers and partake in a number of other activities, such as spooky story time and a dance party. There were also a variety of other items being given away during the event, including a silent auction.

60-65 percent voter turnout predicted in Whitley County; early voting starts Thursday

Whitley County Clerk Carolyn Willis is predicting a 60-65 percent voter turnout for the upcoming Nov. 5 General Election, which will see voters casting their ballots for President of the United States. “It will be the biggest turnout ever, if we have that many,” Willis said. While there have been a few phone calls by people asking questions about the two constitutional amendments on the Nov. 5 ballot, Willis said the presidential race is the one that people are “very, very concerned with” noting the economy now versus four years ago. Nearly 55 percent of voters turned out in Whitley County to cast their ballots during the last presidential election in 2020....

Corbin Public Library Ghost Tour

Numerous people turned out last Friday and Saturday at the Corbin Public Library for the annual Ghost Tour. Walt Pennington was one of the guides for Ghost Tour, which featured spooky tales about Corbin’s past. Plenty was also happening inside the library too, such as Brightly Shoupes getting her face painted or Madame Esmerelda (Christine Bentley) giving tarot card readings for visitors brave enough to learn about their future. There was also Halloween-themed trivia, a visit from the East Kentucky Ghostbusters, a magician, among other entertainment.

Bethany’s Hope horse ride hopes to increase suicide awareness…

   Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT Well over 100 people attended the annual Bethany’s Hope horse ride Saturday at Patrick’s Point. The ride is named in honor Bethany Faith Lawson, who died by suicide in 2018. Bethany’s Hope was founded in order to raise awareness about suicide prevention.            

31st Annual Gateway to the Cumberland Jeep Jamboree held late last week in Williamsburg

Aerial Photography by TIMOTHY WYATT More than 230 Jeeps and 350 people converged on Williamsburg late last week for the 31st Annual Gateway to the Cumberland Jeep Jamboree. This year’s event also doubled as a relief effort for victims of the recent hurricanes. In total, over $6,500 in gift cards and approximately $500 in various supplies were received.      

Riverstomp Bluegrass Festival held in W’Burg

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT  The Whitley County Fairgrounds was alive with music last Friday and Saturday as the River Stomp Bluegrass Festival  brought crowds out for the annual event. Alongside the music, there was a variety of food vendors and games, including a large version of the classic Jenga game (ABOVE) that kept people busy and entertained in between artists.          

Oktoberfest event rocks downtown Williamsburg Saturday

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT The Green Space on Main in downtown Williamsburg was the place to be Saturday evening as vendors offering food, drinks and wares lined the street and music filled the air during the city’s annual Oktoberfest event. ‘80s cover band, Club Rewind, capped off the evening with a variety of songs.            

‘The Haunted Theater’ tour opens at Lane Theater over weekend

Photos by TIMOTHY WYATT Thrill seekers in Williamsburg were treated to the opening weekend of “The Haunted Theater”  this past weekend at the Lane Theater, which is a haunted-house-style tour meant to act as a fundraiser to help with ongoing repairs at the theater. The tour will continue each Friday and Saturday through October.        

Wilson urges voters: ‘Yes’ on Amendment 1, ‘No’ on Amendment 2

82nd Rep. Nick Wilson encouraged members of the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Tuesday to vote in favor of Constitutional Amendment 1 when they go to the polls on Election day, which would only allow citizens to vote in Kentucky elections, and to vote against Constitutional Amendment 2, which would allow public tax dollars to go schools other than public schools. “Amendment 1 is to make sure that you are a United States citizen to vote in our elections. I was surprised that it wasn’t a law already,” said Wilson, who was the keynote speaker for Tuesday’s monthly membership luncheon, which was held at Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center.
