The Corbin Tourism Commission passed its 2016/17 $1.362 million budget Tuesday night with one small amendment.
The commissioners agreed to give an additional $1,000 to the Corbin Varsity Club to help sponsor the annual Pigskin Classic football event and the Cumberland Falls Invitational Basketball Tournament.
When the commission discussed the budget at a workshop in May, the commissioners approved at total of $6,000, which included $2,000 for the Cumberland Falls Girls Invitational Tournament.
At the meeting held later in May, Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel told the commissioners that the girl’s tournament was not held in 2015 and the varsity club had no plans for it to return in 2016.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in locating a man, who allegedly fled from police following a motor vehicle pursuit.
On June 8, the sheriff's department received information about a stolen 2014 Kia Optima from Carlisle County, Kentucky, that might be located in Whitley County.
"According to the complaint, 23-year-old Jeremy Tyler Lynn had stolen the vehicle and might be in the Mud Creek area," Sheriff Colan Harrell said in a release.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies charged 28-year-old Sabrina Brumagen of Mount Vernon with one count of second-degree robbery in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred outside the store on U.S. 25 in southern Laurel County.

A woman was found unresponsive last Tuesday after a tip led Deputy Jonas Saunders, with the assistance of Deputy James Fox, to three people who were passed out in the Friendly Mart parking lot in Woodbine around 9 p.m.
The phone-in tip to Whitley County E911 stated that two men and one woman appeared to be passed out in their gold Chevrolet Cavalier. When Deputy Saunders located the vehicle, the occupants were not alert.

An apartment on Davenport Lane in Lily was damaged by fire Monday morning.
Lily and West Knox firefighters were called to the scene off of Robinson Creek Road at 9:48 a.m.
Lily Fire Chief Paul Collins said when firefighters arrived smoke was coming out of the door.

The Whitley County Fiscal Court has been approved for a $131,000 federal grant that will be used to purchase four advanced cardiac monitors to be used in the county’s EMS ambulances.
