Williamsburg Police arrest man for failure to comply with sex offender registration

Williamsburg Police arrested a man Saturday afternoon for second-offense or more failure to comply with sex offender registration. Whitley District Judge Fred White entered a not guilty plea for Roy Howington, 67, during his arraignment Monday. White scheduled a July 28 preliminary hearing in his case, appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Howington and set his bond at $7,500 cash. Williamsburg Police Officer Bryson Lawson arrested Howington about 1:20 p.m. at the homeless shelter, according to an arrest citation. Whitley Co. EMS ambulance crashes on way to motor vehicle accident Sunday

One Whitley County EMS worker was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a wreck Sunday afternoon, but no patients were on board when the accident occurred. The wreck happened shortly before 1 p.m. on US25W between Whitley County Intermediate School and the Whitley County High School main campus entrance. The ambulance was responding to a motor vehicle accident during the heavy storm when it hydroplaned coming down the hill. The ambulance jumped the curb and went down the hill coming to rest against a parked car, which had no one inside. A section of guardrail was damaged during the accident. Somerset Community College has announced the names of students who have exemplified outstanding academic achievement and therefore have been placed on the President’s List and Dean’s List for the Spring 2025 semester that began on January 13, 2025, and ended on May 11, 2025. Many years ago, James Paul began dreaming about helping launch a sports league where kids could come and play for no charge. The Corbin Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, July 15 in the library at Corbin Elementary School, recognizing the departure of Corbin Superintendent Dave Cox, praising him for his success after 33 years, as well as recognizing Amy Floyd, representing Partners for Rural Impact (PRI), an organization that invests in and provides opportunities for rural youth. Whitley County Grand Jury hands down criminal abuse indictments against four people

The Whitley County Grand Jury handed down criminal abuse indictments against four people in connection with three separate cases Monday. The grand jury indicted Rebecca Trosper, 63, and Terry Trosper, 57, both of Corbin, charging them with two counts of first-degree criminal abuse. From Jan. 1, 2023, through April 9, 2025, the couple allegedly abused two children by placing them in a situation, which caused them to be in danger of death or serious physical injury, according to their indictments. In a separate case, the grand jury also indicted Steven R. Manus, 43, of Williamsburg, charging him with second-degree criminal abuse and fourth-degree assault. Powers gets six-month jail sentence for violating graves

Whitley Circuit Judge Dan Ballou followed the plea agreements and sentenced a Corbin man Monday afternoon to a largely probated prison sentence for violating graves and drug possession. Dusten Powers, 41, pleaded guilty on May 13 to a charge of violating graves in one case, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in a second case. On Nov. 5, 2024, Powers violated graves by knowingly and unlawfully removing ornaments placed upon graves in the Bark Camp Creek Cemetery, according to his indictment. Ballou sentenced Powers to a five-year prison sentence in the violating graves case but agreed to probated all but six months of that sentence as part of the plea...
