The 2017 13th Region boys’ basketball tournament will tip off Wednesday at the Corbin Arena, and it will feature one of the most unpredictable brackets that we’ve seen in quite some time. That’s saying a lot considering how ultra-competitive the region has been in recent years, but let’s take a few moments to look closer at the eight teams who will be vying for a trip to the Sweet 16 in the days ahead…

The Panthers won another 51st District championship title last week, but they had to survive a scare by the Lynn Camp Wildcats in order to do so. Head Coach Tony Patterson has done a fine...
The Corbin Lady Hounds and the Lynn Camp Lady Cats both qualified for region tournament competition in 2017, but neither team would be able to advance past the first round of play Monday night.
The Lady Hounds were up first, squaring off against the Harlan County Lady Black Bears in a rematch from a game that took place back on February 10. On that day, Corbin traveled to Harlan County and fell after a competitive contest, 66-59.
The Lady Bears have been led this season by junior Blair Green, who came into Monday’s region tournament game averaging over 23 points a game. Her performance against the Hounds in round one lived...
With a 72-66 win over the South Laurel Cardinals Friday night, the Corbin Redhounds (25-5) became champions of the 50th District in 2017.
"This is great," said Head Coach Tony Pietrowski of his team's championship victory. "I've been in this business a long time, and I still don't take these things for granted. I'm just proud of my kids. I thought we played really well. South Laurel did a lot of really good things, but we just kept grinding. This is a big win for our program, and I'm happy that Corbin is going to be represented by 50th District champions again."

The Corbin boys and girls teams are both headed to the 50th District finals later this week after defeating Whitley County at Williamsburg High School Tuesday night.

The Hounds led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but junior Andrew Taylor already found himself in some foul trouble. Corbin took a 29-22 lead with them into the half, and they still led at the end of three quarters, 44-36. North battled back, however, and midway through the fourth the game was all knotted up at 46-46.
Taylor would foul out with his team down by just one point with 47 seconds left in regulation. The Jags sunk a couple of free throws, and...

This very well could be the year that the Corbin Redhounds can once again contend for a 13th Region championship title, but first they will have to take care of business in the 50th District tournament at Williamsburg High School next week.

After a pair of double headers this past week, regular season play in the 50th District is now complete.
On Friday, the Corbin Lady Hounds and Redhounds came to Whitley County High School’s Lawson Gymnasium. Both teams were looking to make it two-in-a-row against the Colonels on the season, but only the boys would be successful in that endeavor.
The girls’ game was intense. Corbin’s Madison Hicks scored a game-high 24 points, but it was Whitley County’s Kaelie Frazier who sunk six three-point buckets to lift her team to a two-point victory, 58-56. Frazier ended the night with a total of 21 points. “It felt amazing,” she said of the Lady...
