Six of the eight News Journal coverage area teams were in action Tuesday. Here are the results... Both the Williamsburg boys and girls teams made the short trip south to Jellico, TN to square off against the Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils. The boys were up first, with Williamsburg winning 81-52 to improve to 2-0 on the year. The WHS ladies were also victorious, 62-37, giving them a 1-0 start to the 2017-18 season. Andrew Taylor has been wowing Corbin Redhound basketball fans with his ability on the court ever since he first started playing at the varsity level as an eighth grader. Now, as he is about to enter his senior season at CHS, he is poised to lead the Hounds to a successful 2017-18 campaign that very well could include a trip to compete at Rupp Arena in the boys' Sweet 16 tournament. Eagles soar at Fifth Annual NIBROC 3-on-3 basketball tournament

A total of 21 teams showed up to the Princess Vermillion McBurney Recreation Center in Corbin this past Saturday to compete in the News Journal’s Fifth Annual NIBROC 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Among those teams were defending champions L-Town (Mark Sandoval, Dalton Patterson and Kyle Neal), a trio of talented players from Lebanon, Tenn., and the Eagles (Travis Cowden, Isaac Wilson, Tyler Rogers, Robert Dalton and Carla Booth), a team comprised of both locals and out-of-towners who had come together in hopes of achieving 3-on-3 glory. Defending champions returning to NIBROC 3-on-3

For the first time in its five-year history, the defending champions of the NIBROC 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be making a bid to be repeat winners. The Lebanon, Tenn. trio who named their team “L-Town” are planning a return trip to Corbin this Saturday to defend their 2016 title, making them the only team so far to attempt to do so with the exact same lineup of players. “The experience we had last year actually exceeded our expectations, not just because of how we did on the court, but also the way the tournament was run and the competition,” said Mark Sandoval, captain of L-Town. Isaac Wilson excited to get the all-new Lady Hounds Women’s League up and going later this month

Former Corbin Lady Redhounds, Whitley County Lady Colonels and even a squad of former Bell County Lady Bobcat basketball players will be back on the hardwood beginning this month with the birth of a new women’s basketball league. Now that high school spring sports have officially wrapped up it is time to begin thinking about what the next school year will have in store. The beginning of new football, volleyball, soccer, golf and cross country seasons are just on the horizon, but basketball is never far from the collective consciousness of sports fans in the state of Kentucky. Patrick Robinson steps down as head coach of WHS boys basketball program

After 11 years of leading the Williamsburg High School boys basketball program, Patrick Robinson has decided to step down as head coach of the Yellow Jackets. A press release sent out by WHS Athletic Director John Harris Thursday said, “The Williamsburg Independent School District wishes to announce that it has started the search process for a new head boys’ basketball coach. Former Hound Isaac Wilson named new CHS girls basketball head coach

The new head coach of the Corbin Lady Hounds basketball program was announced Monday afternoon, and it’s a familiar face. Former Redhound basketball player Isaac Wilson has been chosen to fill the position that was made vacant last month when former head coach Jason McDaniel announced that he was resigning after four years of leading the program. Wilson attended Corbin High School from 2007-2010. He was a standout member of the boys basketball team, earning the opportunity to continue his playing career at Alice Lloyd College. Jason McDaniel resigns as head coach of Lady Hounds basketball program

Jason McDaniel, who has led the Corbin Lady Hounds basketball program for the past four years as head coach, has announced that he is resigning. McDaniel decided to step down earlier this week, but he said that it was not an easy decision for him to make. "I still love basketball, and I still love coaching," he said. "I've fought with this for the last few weeks, but my life has changed quite a bit, and I just felt like it was time."
