They will be off next week before opening up district play at home on October 5 against Harlan. Across town, the Whitley County Colonels dropped a heart breaker to East Jessamine, 35-28. The loss drops the Colonels to 1-4 on the season ahead of a district matchup in London next week against North Laurel. It was a tough, but successful, night of football for three of our four coverage area teams Friday. The Corbin Redhounds battled it out with the visiting Beechwood Tigers, and were ultimately able to come away with a 21-14 victory to remain undefeated on the year at 4-0. All four coverage area high school football teams were in action on Friday night, August 31. The Corbin Redhounds improved to 3-0 on the year with a 47-20 win at Pulaski County. They will be back home at Campbell Field next week, welcoming in defending Class A state champions Beechwood. The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets were also able to improve their season record Friday, moving to 2-1 after surviving a scare from visiting Leslie County, 40-30. On Saturday, the Corbin Redhounds improved to 2-0 with a 28-10 win over visiting Danville in game two of the 2018 Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. Next Friday the Hounds will hope to extend their win streak to three games when they go on the road to face Pulaski County. With seven starters returning on offense and eight returning on defense to this year’s squad, the 2018 Williamsburg Yellow Jackets could be poised to make a significant run in the playoffs if the team can stay healthy and continue to develop its depth. “We had a lot of kids banged up last year and it was tough. Hopes are high as the Lynn Camp Wildcats prepare to open the 2018 football season on August 17 at Knott County Central. Coach Allen Harris’ squad returns 17 seniors and nine starters from a team that finished 8-4, losing at Hazard in the second round of the KHSAA Class A playoffs. “Our kids are really focused,” Harris said. The Corbin Redhounds will once again be on the “Hunt for Six,” or their sixth state championship title in program history, in 2018. The Hounds came close to reaching their goal last season, losing to Boyle County in the Class 3A tournament finals at Kroger Field in Lexington, and this year the team is set up to potentially make another deep postseason run. “The biggest thing is just to continue to work hard, and get better,” Head Coach Justin Haddix said recently. “We should be able to do some good things, but we’re going to have to be good up front.” Fans will notice a few changes compared to last year’s team,...
