Sports fans in Whitley County have gotten to know the name of Lindsey Shope very well since she first arrived at Whitley County High School in 2018. As a sophomore and junior, she helped guide the Lady Colonels to new heights on the softball field, including a 50th District championship title in 2019. Unfortunately, Shope and her fellow Class of 2020 spring student-athletes were robbed of their senior seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but where one door closes another opens. It was another successful spring season for the Williamsburg High School track and field team. The Jackets and Lady Jackets managed to compile a long list of achievements during the past season, but junior Nate Goodin and senior Lylah Mattingly gave performances worthy of a trip to the recent Nike Outdoor Nationals competition in Eugene, Ore. Five Impact Archery members named 2024 KY S3DA 3D state champions

Five Impact Archery members were crowned state champions during a recent competition in Owensboro. Four were 3D “Top Gun” Shooters of the Year, and three were second place finishers. All 11 competing members finished in the top 10. The Eagle team also placed second in the team event. Redhounds fall in extra-inning classic at KHSAA state tournament

It took two extra innings for them to get the job done, but the Owensboro Catholic Aces were able to pull off a 5-4 victory over the 13th Region champion Corbin Redhounds Friday in round one of this year's Kentucky High School Athletic Association Baseball State Tournament, played at Legends Stadium in Lexington. With the loss, Corbin wraps up their 2024 campaign with an overall record of 30 wins and 11 losses. The Hounds got on the board first Friday thanks to an inside-the-park home run from Noah Cima. New CHS football coach introduced to community

On Monday, a special reception was held at Campbell Field in Corbin for the Redhound football program’s newest head coach, Luke Salmons. Salmons comes to Corbin from Cabell Midland High School in West Virginia, where he led that school’s varsity football program to a combined record of 118-37 across 13 seasons. Corbin tennis players advance to semifinals of KHSAA state championship tournaments

Last week was a history-making one for the Corbin High School tennis program, as three competitors advanced all the way to the Final Four of the 2024 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Championships and two more played their way into the Elite Eight. The boys doubles team of sophomore Nate Hill and senior Quinn Maguet defeated teams from South Oldham High School and Lyon County High School in the first and second rounds of their state tournament. Corbin baseball defeats Whitley County in 13th Region tournament finals

As many expected it would, this year’s 13th Region baseball tournament once again came down to 50th District rivals Corbin and Whitley County. Last year, it was the Colonels who defeated the Redhounds in the regional finals before going on to win a program-first KHSAA state championship. This time around, Corbin was able to return the favor by punching their tickets to the 2024 state championship tournament in Lexington. Corbin High School announces hire of new varsity football coach

The Corbin Independent School District announced Wednesday that they have hired Luke Salmons to be the next head coach of the CHS varsity football program. "CISD has agreed in principle with Coach Luke Salmons from Cabell Midland High School (West Virginia) to be the next head coach of the Redhounds," said a statement from the district. "More information will follow in the coming days, and a reception to welcome Coach Salmons and his family to Redhound Nation will take place next week." 13th Region softball and baseball championship tournament brackets announced

Memorial Day will be full of softball and baseball action in Knox County as this year's 13th Region championship tournaments are scheduled kick off at Lynn Camp and Knox Central high schools.
