When Lindsey Shope came onto the scene for the Whitley County High School softball program as a sophomore in 2018, she made an immediate impact from inside the pitching circle. The missing component in the Lady Colonels’ recipe for success, Shope helped lead the team to a 50th District title in 2019, as well as an appearance in the 13th Region championship tournament semifinals.
She followed that up with an impressive showing on the basketball court during the winter of her senior year, finishing a close second on the team leaderboard for total points scored during the season.

The Corbin Redhounds baseball team were disappointed in the opening round of the 2022 KHSAA state championship tournament in Lexington this afternoon, losing 2-1 to the Central Hardin Bruins. The Hounds finish out the season with an overall record of 26 wins and 13 losses.
In other news, the Corbin softball team also fell in state tournament opening round action, losing to Louisville Holy Cross, 8-0. The Lady Hounds end their season at 20-14 overall.

The Corbin Lady Hounds softball team won their first ever 13th Region title Tuesday evening picking up a 3-0 win over the North Laurel Lady Jags.
The win over North improves the Lady Hounds to 20-13 on the year, and advances them to this year's KHSAA state championship tournament, which kicks off later this week in Lexington at the University of Kentucky's John Cropp Stadium.

The 2022 13th Region baseball and softball tournaments were scheduled to get underway Monday, but most games had to be postponed due to wet field conditions after a full day of steady rainfall.
The only teams who managed to get their game in on Monday were the Whitley County Colonels and the Jackson County Generals. The Colonels defeated Jackson County 4-2, improving to 27-10 on the year and advancing to the regional semis, where they will face the winners of Middlesboro and Barbourville at South Laurel High School.

Home has been good to Angela Singleton’s Whitley County Lady Colonels who are in the midst of a four-game winning streak over the last week.
Whitley County shut out Pineville last Tuesday and then added wins over Harlan County Barbourville and Middlesboro to improve to 5-2 on the season.
