Coming off of a rough roadtrip in eastern Kentucky where they lost two out of three games, Coach Crystal Stidham’s Corbin Lady Redhounds Softball squad is preparing to head west to Owensboro beginning Friday for the Kentucky 2A Championship Tournament. The first 13th Region Softball standings were released Tuesday by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and Whitley County is one of the best at the plate while Corbin is giving up the fewest runs. Corbin Lady Redhounds Coach Crystal Stidham’s team has given up 36 runs in nine games, with 21 of those coming in a 21-9 loss on March 29 to Southwestern. Coach Crystal Stidham’s team split a pair of games on Saturday, losing to Bowling Green, 4-2, and defeating Somerset, 9-1. Danni Foley got the start against the Purples, giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out six and walking four. Home has been good to Angela Singleton’s Whitley County Lady Colonels who are in the midst of a four-game winning streak over the last week. Whitley County shut out Pineville last Tuesday and then added wins over Harlan County Barbourville and Middlesboro to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Lady Colonels picked up the 8-0 win over Pineville. Makenzie Lunsford pitched the complete game, striking out 10 and giving up three hits to get the win. The Williamsburg Little League Program will be holding sign-ups on Saturday, March 5, and Saturday, March 12, at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center for the upcoming season. The sign-ups will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. each of those days. Cumberland Freewill Baptist Church won the 2021 Williamsburg Mens Summer Softball League with a record of 18-3. The team from Tim Smith Construction finished second with a record of 17-4.

The 2021 softball season came to an end for the Corbin Lady Redhounds Tuesday night with 9-0 loss to North Laurel in the 13th Region Semifinals. The Lady Jaguars got going in the first inning by pushing across one run in the top of the first inning against starting pitcher Shelby Stewart. The 13th Region softball road to Lexington has moved from Harlan County to Williamsburg. Following the postponement of Monday night’s semifinals games because of weather, the remaining games will be played at the University of the Cumberlands beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Corbin Lady Redhounds will face off against North Laurel in the first game, while South Laurel will play Knox Central in the second game. The winners will face off for the 13th Region title and a spot in the state tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the University of the Cumberlands.
