Corbin Lady Redhounds draw Middlesboro to open 13th Region Softball Tournament

The Corbin Lady Redhounds Softball team will open the 13th Region tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday against 52nd District Champion Middlesboro. The winner will move on to play the winner of North Laurel versus Lynn Camp at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the region semifinal. “This is when it has to come together and I believe they need to keep doing what they are doing,” said Corbin Coach Crystal Stidham. Williamsburg Softball season ends with loss to South Laurel in district tournament

The season came to an end for the Williamsburg Lady Jackets softball team Monday afternoon with a 15-1 loss to South Laurel in the opening round of the 50th District Tournament. South Laurel put up 12 runs in the first two innings, while holding Williamsburg to a single base runner in that period. Williamsburg got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Keely Bisschop led off the inning by reaching first base on an error, and later advanced to second on a passed ball, and then to third on a single by McKenzie Prewitt. “It’s go time!” That is how Corbin High School Softball Coach Crystal Stidham described the first round of the 50th District Softball Tournament, which begins at noon today at South Laurel High School alongside the 50th District Baseball Tournament. On the softball diamond, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets will be looking to pull the huge upset of top seed South Laurel. Over on the baseball diamond, top seed Whitley County and the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets will face off in the opening round. The Corbin and Whitley County softball teams, who will meet next Monday in the first round of the 50th District Softball Tournament remain neck and neck in the standings. Corbin picked up a pair of wins in a home-and-home series against Lynn Camp Thursday and Friday to improve to 12-15 on the season. The Corbin Lady Redhounds Softball team picked up a big win Monday night as Kallie Housely threw a no-hitter in the 10-0 victory over Pineville. “My team was finally all together again and played a great game against Pineville,” said Coach Crystal Stidham noting injuries have forced changes to the lineup that has resulted in some younger players being forced into unfamiliar positions. Housely needed 62 pitches to cruise through the five innings, striking out nine in the process. Pineville’s only base runner came on a one-out walk in the bottom of the fourth. Corbin’s Shelby Stewart throws no-hitter

The Corbin Lady Redhounds started the week on a high note, defeating Williamsburg 12-0 Thursday behind a no-hit effort from Shelby Stewart. Kallie Housely went four-for-four at the plate with two RBIs. Kaila Stidham added three RBIs for the Lady Redhounds. Corbin Softball making late charge on Whitley Co.

As the high school softball season goes into its final stretch, Corbin has continued its charge, winning five of its last seven games, including a 2-1 win over South Laurel to get within striking distance of Whitley County. After giving up one run in the top of the first inning, Corbin’s Kallie Housley settled down and pitched seven innings.
