Williamsburg is home to one of the newest 2026 KHSAA state champions. Zyler Housekeeper brought home the gold in pole vault during the 2026 Indoor Track & Field State Championships presented by UK HealthCare. The tournament was hosted in Louisville on March 3.
Williamsburg competed in the Class A competition. Corbin and Whitley County competed in the Class AA competition.

After this past weekend’s regional championship meets, a large group of coverage area runners are headed to the Kentucky Horse Park this Saturday, Nov. 1, to compete in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Cross Country State Championships.
The Corbin Redhounds and Lady Hounds had a big day in Wayne County last Saturday, with both programs securing their latest Class 2A Region 5 championship titles and ensuring that all runners will make the trip to Lexington this Saturday.

After last week’s regional championship competitions, a long list of local high school track and field athletes have qualified to take part in this year’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association championships meets.
The 2025 KHSAA championships are slated to get underway this Thursday, May 29, at the University of Kentucky’s outdoor track facility in Lexington. On that day, several Williamsburg Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets will be in action in this year’s Class A finale.

Last week, the Williamsburg High School track and field team hosted its Gold Medal Meet at the University of the Cumberlands. Many coverage area athletes posted top finishes at the event, including the following:

Whitley County High School track and field Head Coach Terry Lanham has described this season as a “full circle moment” for him personally. As a 2001 graduate of WCHS, he was around when the school was still hosting track meets on a regular basis. That ended just a few years after he left, but now, thanks to a major investment by the board of education to overhaul the school’s track facility, the Colonels are ready to host events once again.

After regional competition at Cave Lake Park in Wayne County over the weekend, all four coverage area high schools will be sending runners to compete in this year’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships.

Earlier this week, the brand new athletic commons area at Corbin High School was officially unveiled to the community. For many current Redhounds and Lady Hounds, it was a chance to check out the facility that they will call home for the duration of their high school athletic careers.
“It’s going to be great,” said tennis Coach Chris Jones. “The courts have been resurfaced, there are separate locker rooms for the boys and the girls, they have added bleachers, and then, of course, there is the tower.”
The tower that Jones is referring to is a large structure located at the center of the commons area that provides coaches and officials...
“I believe that God spared my life for a reason, and it wasn’t to just sit down and accept what had happened to me. It was to overcome it.” Those are the words of Josh Grubb, the soon-to-be senior at Whitley County High School who less than a year ago was clinging to life after he sustained horrific injuries in a tragic head-on car crash that left several others injured and took the life of one person in another vehicle.
