As spring is almost upon us, the City of Corbin is busy scheduling dates for a number of upcoming events.
Colonelfest, which is a two-day downtown festival named after Corbin’s most famous resident, KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders, is planned for Friday (April 25) and Saturday (April 26) in downtown Corbin.
“We have had a great response from vendors, entertainment and all of the normal happenings for Colonelfest,” said Corbin Downtown Manager Jacob Roan.
Corbin Tourism Director Nancy Conley said that unfortunately, the Sanders 10k race, which is normally held in conjunction with Colonelfest, won’t be held this year.
Conley said there is a big 10k race taking place in Louisville that day, which would have cut down on participation significantly. Organizers are looking for a different date next year for the event.
Monsters of Destruction returns to The Corbin Arena Saturday (March 22) and Sunday (March 23).
Corbin Restaurant Week will run Monday (March 24) through Sunday (March 30) with 11 restaurants participating this year, including: Santa Fe, King Donuts, Old Town Grill, M&M Rooftop Garden, Mi Casa #3, Cinema Social, Wild Daisy Farm and Kitchen, Sweeties Ice Cream, The Depot on Main, Ya-Ya’s Sea and Soul Food and The Wrigley Taproom & Eatery.
“Get out and have something that you haven’t tried,” Conley said.
Depot Street Market will take place on April 5, May 3, June 7, and July 5 this year. The market will take place on the first Saturday of those months. Those wanting to sell their items can set up for free in the parking lots along Depot Street that morning. A portion of Depot Street will be closed for the event.
Conley noted that the June 7 Depot Street Market will coincide with the US25W Yard Sale this year.
The Cumberland Valley Cruise In antique car and truck show is planned for May 10, June 14, July 12 and Oct. 11. The shows will be held on Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Conley noted that there is no show in August due to Nibroc, and no show in September due to a large, popular car show in Tennessee.
The Hometown Bank Farmer’s Market Pavilion will host the Whitley County Farmer’s Market starting on April 29. It will be held every Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. through the end of August. Conley said that it is possible there will be some one-day markets in September, October and November.
The Corbin School of Innovation Montessori will hold its end of the year student market on May 16 at the Hometown Bank Farmer’s Market Pavilion from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Roan added that another mix and mingle event is being planned for April in downtown Corbin.
