The Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission held its regular meeting on Oct. 14, featuring presentations by Chase Webster from Placer A.I. and Andy Salmons with Field Guide Digital.
The meeting began with Financial Advisor Bryan Gay with the monthly financial report.
“We had a pretty good restaurant tax month. $161,390,” said Gay. “Last month, we were at $163,000, so same ballpark. Last year at this time, we were at $144,056, so a pretty good increase from last year.”
The transient tax for September, which includes Airbnb, is $19,965.
“Good increase there,” said Gay regarding the previous month, which was $16,900.
The net income for the month was $37,845.
Webster’s presentation was about Placer A.I., which is a data tool that shows where people go and how they move around an area by using anonymous cellphone data. For Corbin Tourism, it would help them see what events or attractions bring people into town and which places get the most traffic. That information can help plan future events.
The annual cost would be $22,000.
No final decision was made due to board members wanting to wait till after the potential website rebrand.
The following presentation was by Andy Salmons, local to the area, with Field Guide Digital.
Field Guide Digital is a digital marketing company that began in 2018 and was started by Salmons himself. The company does photography, videography, and graphic design, and they operate all over the U.S.
Salmons presented a proposal to the board members to update the logo, create a new website, and schedule social media content featuring photos and short videos.
Salmons created the logo that Corbin Tourism has now in 2015. The updated logo they hope to rebuild is still in alignment with that one.
“That’s really great. This is going to keep our costs down considerably,” said Salmons. “All we need to do is mend and modify it to give tourism its own identity that still aligns with the broader identity of the city.”
Salmons mentioned they want to start a marketing contract that Corbin Tourism can cancel at any time within 30 days.
A decision was not made, but board members will look into the proposal.
Octoberfest was a successful event for Corbin Tourism, with several members commenting that it went well.
Board members approved the Hometown Bank Farmers Market recognition plaque, which DK Media will create for $1,225.
There is a conflict with the next Corbin Tourism meeting date being the same day as Veterans Day, so the board members discussed moving the date to Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m., with most members saying they would be available.
The Commission entered executive session. No action was taken.
