It was a good night for coverage area high school football teams, as those who were in action were able to kick off the 2024 season with statement-making victories.
In Corbin, the Head Coach Luke Salmons era got started with a bang as the Redhounds managed to knock off a defending state champion in game two of this year’s Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. With a 22-7 win over the defending Class A state champion Pikeville Panthers, Corbin is now off to a 1-0 start in what promises to be another very successful season.
While the Redhounds were taking care of business against one Panther squad at Campbell Field, the Whitley County Colonels were doing the same a few miles south on I-75. The Colonels were hopeful of getting their 2024 campaign started off with a win, and that is exactly what they did, defeating visiting Knox Central, 29-14.
Finally, the Lynn Camp Wildcats were also able to put a mark in the win column in week 1, travelling to Jellico, TN and defeating the Blue Devils, 20-14.
