Hugh Bart Towe

Date:

Master Sergeant Hugh Towe passed away of natural causes April 26, 2021 peacefully at home in Alaska with his family. He was born September 16, 1947.
Exposed to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam, he suffered multiple ailments as a result over the rest of his life; but he was strong and courageous, rarely showing any signs of his suffering.
Hugh was born and raised in Williamsburg, Kentucky before he joined the Army in 1966, serving multiple tours in Vietnam. His Army career spanned over 27 years, with stations in Virginia, Germany, Korea, and Alaska. He was a cowboy at heart who loved his horses and his time fighting for, and serving, his country. He served honorably and bravely, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8).
The Towe family has a long tradition of military service. Hugh and six of his siblings served honorably. Six of the seven for more than 20 years. Four of the brothers served in Vietnam at the same time; three of them for multiple tours. All came home safely. Five other family members served in the military as well. In honor of this, the Commonwealth of Kentucky adopted Resolution 202 on March 2, 2010 honoring and commending John W. and Tilda Towe’s family for their proud military service. A bridge in Williamsburg, Kentucky was named the “John W. Towe Bridge” as part of this Resolution.
Hugh is survived by his son Hugh Towe II; three step-children, Debbie Bolin, Mike Bolin, and Dennis Bolin; sister, Lucy Mae Abbott; and four brothers, Raymond Wesley Towe, Sammy Stanley Towe, George Earnest Towe, and Herman Edward Towe. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gerlinde Irma (Klein) Towe; parents, John Wesley Towe and Tilda Louise (Adkins) Towe; and three brothers, John Barry Towe, Kenneth Lee Towe, and James Edwin Towe.
Master Sergeant Towe is being laid to rest with honor on August 4, at 10:00 am in the Arlington National Cemetery among his fellow military brothers, sisters, and heroes.
