LADY COLONELS

Date:

There was no stopping 6-2 junior Amanda Brimm last night as the Whitley County Lady Colonels defeated the Knox Central Lady Panthers, 61-55 at Lawson Gym.
It wasn’t an easy win for coach Larry Anderson’s team as Whitley County fell behind 11-7 after the first eight minutes and trailed the visitors 27-18 at the half.
However, Brimm did have 11 of her game high 26 points in the first half.
“We finally got started in the second half,” said Anderson. “Holly (Jones) and Tonka (McCullah) started shooting the way they can and we went to Amanda in the low post and she’s hard to stop when we get the ball in to her.”
The Lady Colonels used a 15-4 run to start the third quarter to get back in the game. A three pointer by Jones with 5:19 got the Lady Colonels within three and McCullah followed with a three pointer to tie the game.
Kayla Osborne pushed Whitley County ahead 33-31, completing a 8-0 run before Knox Central called a time-out.
The game was tied two more times in the third period but Whitley County went on a 6-1 run to close out the third quarter with a 41-36 lead.
Knox Central came back to take a 54-53 lead but the Lady Colonels finished off the game with an 8-1 spree, hitting six of six from the line.
McCullah added 10 points in the win while Holbrook added eight points, Osborne 8, Jones 7 and Rhoades 2.
