Lynn Camp teacher arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into jail

A Lynn Camp School teacher is facing promoting contraband charges for allegedly having pills hidden in his socks when he checked himself into the Knox jail to serve time on previous charges.

Eric Ray Canady, 40, of Corbin was charged at around 4:15 p.m. and charged with second-degree promoting contraband, and second-degree possession of controlled substance, both misdemeanor charges.

According to jail officials, Canady had been sentenced to serve time on a previous DUI conviction and was serving that time on weekends.

When Canady reported on Thursday afternoon, jail officials performed a routine search of Canady at which time they found seven Tylenol #3 tablets and six Benadryl tablets inside some aluminum foil in his sock.

According to Lynn Camp principal Amy Bays, Canady is still listed as a teacher at the school.

However, Bays said she was did not know what disciplinary action may be ahead for Canady.

Canady’s was arrested Sept. 11 by KSP Trooper Dallas Eubanks and charged with DUI and speeding.

According to test breathalyzer test results, Canady blew .185, well above the legal limit of .08.

He was arraigned Tuesday on the latest charges, and is set for a pretrial conference on Jan. 11.
