Pedestrian seriously injured on US 25W

A Williamsburg woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a vehicle late Thursday evening.

Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell said early Friday afternoon that at last check the victim, Melissa Carr, 30, of Clifford Canada Road, was listed in critical condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

The accident happened about 8:55 p.m. Thursday. Carr was walking along US25W north of Williamsburg with a friend when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Michelle Karr, 21, of Tidal Wave Road, Corbin, who was heading north along the road.

Whitley County EMS treated the victim at the scene, and Air Evac. Lifeteam transported her by emergency medical helicopter to Knoxville.

"The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and contacted 911 by phone. The second pedestrian was not injured," Harrell noted.

Police don’t currently plan to file any charges against the driver.

"It’s just a terrible, tragic accident," Harrell added.

Deputy Shawn Jackson is investigating the accident, and was assisted at the scene by Deputy John Hill, Sgt. Ken Shepherd and members of the Williamsburg Police Department.
