Police say man hit girlfriend in head, tried to burn her computer

A Corbin man is facing assault and resisting arrest charges after allegedly hitting his girlfriend in the head with a flashlight Saturday evening, and then running from sheriff’s deputies a short time later.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Foley charged David A. Dugger, 46, of Oak Ridge Road, with first-degree assault and for first-degree fleeing or evading police.
Deputy Ben Hodge charged Dugger with alcohol intoxication, and resisting arrest.
The incident happened about 11 p.m. at the girlfriend’s residence on 1320 Long Bottom Road, where police were dispatched after a complaint was made about a domestic dispute in progress, officials said.
Foley said the victim was bleeding from her head wound when police arrived, and appeared to have been seriously injured.
“She was pretty seriously hurt. We could tell from talking to her that she was somewhat disoriented. There was a lot of blood from the head area. I’m not a doctor but it looked serious,” Foley said.
He said medical personnel initially wanted to fly the victim from the scene, but because of fog no helicopters could take off and land.
When officers first arrived, Dugger was standing in an adjacent yard burning a computer that belonged to his girlfriend, who was at a different residence, Hodge said.
After officers spoke to the girlfriend, Hodge said he walked over toward Dugger to ask him some questions when Dugger took off running into the woods.
Hodge said the foot pursuit lasted less than two minutes, and probably covered about 250 yards before he apprehended Dugger.
Deputy Alan Onkst assisted Foley and Hodge at the scene.
