Public memorial for doctor, who died from COVID-19, postponed due to COVID-19

Date:

A public memorial for a Corbin doctor, who died last year after battling COVID-19, has been delayed due to increasingly high levels of COVID-19.

The memorial was planned for Aug. 2 to celebrate, “the legacy and 60th birthday of Dr. Mohammad Jawed.”

Organizers announced Wednesday that the Aug. 2 event had been canceled due to COVID-19 levels increasing throughout the Tri-County area, but that it would be rescheduled when safe to do so.

Jawed was recognized last year by Gov. Andy Beshear, who said, “Dr. Jawed truly was a hero, battling multiple myeloma, a cancer that affected his plasma cells, over the last two years while continuing to work as a frontline health care worker, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. He dedicated his life to supporting his family and caring for his patients.”

He was the founder of Bluegrass Medical Center LLC in Corbin.

Jawed was 59 years old.
