Road Loss

Date:

Playing without seniors Amanda Smith and Tammy Branham, the Lynn Camp Lady ‘Cats were outsized in its season opener at Cumberland Monday night. The Lady Wildcats lost to the Harlan Lady Dragons 49-28, losing the battle of the boards 40-11.
Lynn Camp (0-1) had trouble shooting the ball, hitting just 8 of 40 from the field for 20 percent.
The Lady Wildcats had no answer for Harlan’s Kendra Latham who poured in 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for the Lady Dragons.
Without Smith and Branham, Lynn Camp’s Savannah Melton and Mandy Smith did most of the shooting for the Lady Wildcats. The two combined for seven of the eight field goals but managed only 7 of 26 from the field.
Lynn Camp stayed close in the first couple of minutes and the game was tied at 4-4 when Harlan’s Brittany Jones nailed a three pointer that gave the Lady Dragons the lead for good. A 6-3 run pushed Harlan ahead at the end of one quarter, 13-7.
Melton and Smith tried to keep the Lady ‘Cats close. Lynn Camp trailed 27-17 at the half.
However, the Lady Cats came out cold in the third quarter and scored only three points while Harlan pulled away, taking a 37-20 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cats will resume action in the Lady Skins Tipoff Tournament Thursday when Lynn Camp takes on Cumberland, a 59-18 winner over Letcher. Lynn Camp meets Letcher Friday at 6 p.m.
