An investigation by Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies into the theft of an employee’s purse Tuesday at Oak Grove Elementary, has confirmed that the perpetrator is the same woman that hit Corbin Elementary School Friday.
Whitley County Deputy Shawn Jackson said video surveillence from the school shows the same woman entering the building, which was closed to students, but was being used as a polling place in Tuesday’s primary election.
"She went by where the polls were set up, through the lunch room and back to the classrooms," Jackson said.
While none of the the school staff was working, Jackson said the woman found a purse that had been left at school.
Jackson said in speaking with the victim, deputies learned the perpetrator got away with a small amount of cash, several credit cards and several personal items.
However, unlike Friday’s incident, the thief was unable to use the credit cards to purchase anything before the victim closed the accounts.
Jackson added that video surveillance shows the thief and a black male leaving the area in a white Dodge Charger, possibly with Florida license plates.
Jackson said investigators have no information on the thief striking anywhere else. However, they are asking for the public to be aware as she may strike again in Whitley or one of the surrounding counties.
Anyone seeing the thief or the car is asked to contact Corbin Police, 528-1122 or the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.
