Sheriff’s deputies following ‘many leads’ in ongoing investigation into death of local man

Date:

Details are still sparse at this time, but the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department has announced via its official Facebook page that deputies are following up on “many leads” in an ongoing investigation into the death of a Corbin man.

Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley confirmed Monday that he received a call on Saturday to respond to the residence of Charles Ohler, located off of Cumberland Falls Hwy. near the Oak Grove community.

Croley said that he assessed the scene upon arrival along with Whitley County Sheriff Bill Elliotte, and that this is now an ongoing death investigation involving both the sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.

Croley said that details on the cause of death are being withheld at this time, and are pending further investigation.

According to reports, Ohler was 73-year-old and his body was initially discovered by his daughter. The exact time of the incident is also not known at this time, and there have been no announcements concerning possible suspects.

In their Facebook post, the sheriff’s department informed followers that deputies were ‘currently following up on many leads,’ and asking that anyone who might have any tips or information concerning the situation to either private message the Facebook page or contact the Whitley County 911 dispatch at (606) 549-6017

The News Journal is attempting to reach Sheriff Elliotte for comments, and will update this post with that information as soon as it can be obtained.

This is a developing story.
