Three Corbin High School students accused of drug trafficking

Three Corbin High School students were arrested last week for allegedly distributing 20 to 30 prescription-strength muscle relaxant pills to fellow students on school grounds.
Local police say three unnamed juvenile males, ages 15, 16 and 17, were taken into custody last Thursday at about 5:28 p.m. at the school. All three now faces charges of third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and drug trafficking within 1,000 yards of a school.
Corbin Police Capt. Tim Helton, who is investigating the case, said the parent of another student informed authorities of the drug activity.
“As far as I know, there was no money exchanged [for the drugs],” Helton said. “The medications were obtained from their homes.”
Apparently, one of the students got the pills and gave them to the other two for distribution. Helton said 10 to 15 fellow students obtained medications from the three juveniles charged in the case.
“The school is conducting the investigation into them,” Helton said. “They are handling the students that received the pills.”
Police say the three were giving away the pills both during school hours and after school. Helton said the pills bear the trade names Soma and Flexeril.
All three juveniles were released to their parents following their arrest.
