 Williamsburg sophomore Becky Sharpe finished sixth in the Leachman/KHSAA Girls State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club Sunday.

Sharpe fired a five-over 77 in the first-round of the tournament and entered Sunday’s play tied with eventual champion, Lindsay Gahm of Louisville Sacred Heart, West Jessamine’s Emily Haas and Green County’s Kate Larimore.

In Sunday’s round, Sharpe went over by 12 strokes to finish the day with an 84. Her two-day total left the Williamsburg golfer with a 161 in sixth place.

She finished behind Gaham, who won the tournament after Caldwell County’s Emma Talley was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard, Haas (155), Megan Wilshire, Scott County (156), Lydia Gumm, North Hardin (158) and Paige Gooch of Beechwood (160).

Green County won the team title with a 689 after trailing five-time champion Sacred Heart after Saturday’s first-round by four strokes. Green County was ten strokes better during Sunday’s final round.

Region champion, Russell County finished seventh while runner-up, Pulaski County finished eighth.

Williamsburg eighth grader, Kaylee Akins finished with a 91, just three shots from making Saturday’s cut. It was her first trip to the state tournament. Whitley County’s Courtney Bishop failed to make the cut and finished with a 22-over 94.
