Seeding is officially set in the boys’ 50th District after Tuesday night’s contests.
The Whitley County Colonels came to Corbin on Tuesday and defeated the host Redhounds in both boys and girls hoops action. The girls game went to the visitors by the final score of 73-57. The win improved the Whitley ladies to 15-7 overall, 2-3 in district play. They will go across town later this week to play Williamsburg in a game where they will be the heavy favorites to win.
With the loss, the Corbin Lady Hounds now stand at 14-7, 2-3. They will also travel to Williamsburg later this week to finish out regular season district play against the Lady Jackets.

The Whitley-Corbin boys game was a nail biter, remaining close until the very end. The Redhounds suffered without leading scorer Ryder Akins in the lineup, however, and despite their best efforts to adjust to his absence, they ended up on the losing end of a 58-54 final decision. With the win, the Colonels improve to 16-7, 3-3. They will face Corbin (15-7, 4-2) again later this month in the first round of this year’s 50th District tournament. The season will be on the line in the rematch, with a chance to advance to the 2025 13th Region tournament hanging in the balance. In other 50th District action Tuesday, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets traveled to London to play South Laurel in a boys-girls double header. The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals were both able to secure the top seeds in their respective brackets, as the SL girls improved to 17-4, 6-0 with an 80-17 win over the Lady Jackets and the SL boys moved to 16-6, 5-1 with a 68-36 victory.
The Williamsburg boys will enter this year’s 50th District as the number four seed. They currently stand at 12-8 on the year, and have gone winless in regular season district play with an 0-6 record. The girls (6-13, 0-4) still have two more chances this week to pick up a district victory over either Whitley County or Corbin, but they will most definitely be playing the part of the underdog on both of those occasions.
