Tuesday Night Highlights: Whitley County hosts Corbin in boys-girls district double header

Regular season district competition continued Tuesday evening as the Whitley County Colonels and Lady Colonels hosted Corbin in a pair of games with seeding implications on the line.

The girls were up first, and it was a game that remained competitive right up until the final moments. In the end, however, the Lady Redhounds managed to pull away and secure a seven-point victory, 47-40. The win improves Corbin to 13-4, and an even 1-1 in the district. With the loss, the Lady Colonels falls to 11-6, 1-2.

The Colonel boys found themselves in a hole early in the late game Tuesday, and despite a valiant effort, they were never able to dig themselves out. The visiting Redhounds led the whole way en route to an 80-62 victory that improved them to 11-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the district. Whitley, meanwhile, falls to 12-6, 1-2.

Also scheduled to be in action Tuesday night were the Williamsburg Lady Jackets and Yellow Jackets, but their district double header against South Laurel was canceled and pushed back to Wednesday evening, Jan. 22. As of now, the girls game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys games following immediately after.
