Williamsburg School honors veterans

Date:

Zach Shannon, the band director at Williamsburg City School, said it is important to continue have programs such as the Veterans Day program because it exposes students to the outside world.

“I think it is really important that they get to see that there is a whole sect of people who are outside of the realm of people that they see every day,” said Shannon.

He said those people have done really important things within our community. Six school employees were recognized as veterans during the program.

“I think that is really important for them to understand that those people that they see every day have made those sacrifices and are amongst them,” said Shannon.

The school invited alumni Major Christian Key to speak to students about his career as a surgeon in the armed forces.
