A Whitley County woman is dead following a Tuesday morning house fire in the Rockholds community.
Whitley County Sheriff Bill Elliotte said that when first responders arrived at the scene, family of the woman believed she was inside the structure because her vehicle was at the home.
The structure was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived and was initially too hot to be searched, though first responders were able to enter once the flames were extinguished.
The woman’s remains were discovered during the search and identified as Unis Mae Broyles, 82. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Elliotte said that details were limited at this time and that the cause of the fire is still currently under investigation.
More information will be provided as it is available.
