Woodbine man charged with attempted murder of police officers

Date:

A Woodbine man is facing two counts of attempted murder of a police officer after he allegedly threw an active meth lab at a state trooper and a Knox County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to officials at the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, neither Deputy Chad Gregory nor Trooper Jake Wilson was injured when Ronnie A. Taylor threw the one-step lab at them Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Pickard about 7 a.m., deputies and state troopers from Post 10 in Harlan were called to a residence on Hedden Flats Road in Corbin in response to a complaint of drug activity.

At the scene, officers reported smelling a strong odor consistent with an active methamphetamine lab.

When Gregory and Wilson tried to enter a building, they said a male subject, later identified as Taylor, threw a plastic bottle that police determined was a one-step meth lab in the direction of the officers.

Officers took Taylor, Cleveland L. Gibson of Woodbine and Deborah L. Hackler of Woodbine into custody on meth-related charges and one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Officers recovered several items known to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine including a HGL generator, Lithium batteries and Muriatic Acid.

Along with Gregory and Wilson, Knox County Chief Deputy Derek R. Eubanks and KSP Trooper Dallas Eubanks responded to the scene.

Taylor is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond, while Gibson and Hackler are each being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
