2024 Southeast Kentucky Empty Stocking Fund Christmas program needs more donations

More donations are still needed for the 2024 Southeast Kentucky Empty Stocking Fund (SEKESF) Christmas program. So far, $23,001 has been donated.

Last year the club collected $35,231.34 in cash donations in addition to several in-kind donations, and helped nearly 200 families and about 630 children.

This year’s budget is $42,500, said Empty Stocking Fund President Joe Caldwell.

Caldwell said that 635 children in 225 families have been signed up for this year’s program.

An estimated 82 bicycles will be purchased for children ages 6-8, who have signed up for the program.

The Corbin Rotary Club has announced the latest round of donations for the SEKESF Christmas program to benefit children in need throughout the tri-county area.

Donors and the amounts given between Dec. 3 – Dec. 9 include:

The 37th Annual Empty Stocking Fund party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Immanuel Baptist Church.

The Christmas present wrapping party will take place on the evening of Friday, Dec. 20, at the church, and volunteers are needed. Little Caesars will be donating pizza for those, who come to help.

The program started in 1988 as a non-profit community project of the Rotary Club of Corbin.

This year will mark 37 consecutive years of service to nearly 20,000 children. The first-year the fundraiser provided a Christmas present for approximately 80 children. The program increased substantially until 2007 when it peaked with more than 800 children from 300 families signed up.
