2025 13th Region Tournament: Lady Hounds survive scare against Harlan in round one

Date:

The Corbin Lady Hounds opened up play in the 2025 13th Region tournament at the Arena Tuesday night. The 52nd District champion Harlan Lady Green Dragons gave them all they had, but in the end the ladies in red were able to pull out the 77-66 win.

The Hounds were dominant in the early stages of Tuesday’s opening round contest, jumping out to a 10-0 lead before being up 22-8 at the end of the first quarter. Harlan was able to cut the lead back down to eight points in the second quarter, but Corbin remained in control, 41-31, going into the half.

The Lady Dragons continued to chip away at the lead in the third quarter, and with just over two minutes on the clock they had pulled to within three, 49-46. Aymanni Wynn tied the game up at the 1:15 mark with a two-point basket and a free throw. Another basket by Wynn just a few moments later allowed Harlan to take a 53-51 lead, but Corbin senior Raegan Walker hit two free throws just before the end of the quarter to tie it up again, 53-53.

A back-and-forth start to the fourth quarter resulted in another tie, 62-62, with about four minutes left in regulation. Wynn fouled out of the game less than a minute later, and the Lady Hounds took advantage. Walker was sent to the free throw line four times in the game’s final minutes, hitting all eight of her shots from the charity stripe to help lead Corbin to an eventual 77-66 victory.

With the win, the Lady Hounds improve to 19-10 on the season and they advance to Friday’s semifinal round where they will face the winners of Tuesday’s late game between North Laurel and Pineville. The News Journal will provide more updates on this year’s 13th Region championship tournaments as the week progresses.
