12th INNING WIN

   An 11th inning bunt by Ben House proved to be the winning hit as the Corbin Redhounds won a thriller over the home standing Seahawks of Hilton Head, 6-5, Monday in the Hilton Head Invitational.

  Trace Vorbeck led off the inning with a grounder to second that was mishandled. Travis Smith was given a free ride to first with an intentional walk. House followed with a bunt down the third base line that saw the Hilton Head third baseman throw the ball over first and allow Vorbeck to score the winning run.

   Corbin starter Ben Jones gave up five runs on eight hits before Smith came to the mound in the 8th and eventually got the win.

   Hilton Head broke a 0-0 tie with two runs in the top of the third. However, Corbin answered with two in the bottom of the fourth when Hoover and Vorbeck led off with back-to-back singles Hoover scored on a sacrifice by Smith to center field and Hoover scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

   The Redhounds looked to be in jeapordy in the seventh after the Seahawks scored three runs in the top of the inning. However, Corbin answered with three runs of their own as Smith, Brady Foley and Cody Duncum scored. Smith and Foley scored on a double by Farley and Duncum tied the game on a sacrifice by Omar McDaniel.

   Corbin will play West Oak at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
