Williamsburg police went to a southern Whitley County residence Thursday evening to serve an arrest warrant and ended up charging a local resident with drug possession.
Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson charged Jerry Fuston, 60, of 321 Kenny Bug Road, with two counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and first-degree promoting contraband.
According to Whitley County Detention Center records, Fuston was also charged with contempt of court and is being held without bond.
About 6 p.m. Thursday, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird, Jackson and K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt went to a residence at 321 Kenny Bug Road to serve an arrest warrant on the owner of the residence.
"Upon arrival by officers, two subjects fled the scene and Mr. Fuston was in his front yard," Jackson said in a press release.
Jackson apprehended Fuston and placed him under arrest for a charge related to his arrest warrant.
"While searching the suspect, a bottle of what was believed to be Oxycodone was found in his pants pocket," Jackson wrote. "After arriving at the jail, it was discovered in a shirt pocket that the suspect had a small plastic baggy of cocaine. The suspect also had over $800 cash."
Williamsburg police had received several complaints about possible drug trafficking at the residence in the Black Oak community, Jackson said.
While conducting the investigation, police stopped several vehicles believed to be headed to the residence, which resulted in several people charged with traffic offenses or arrested on bench warrants, Jackson said.
"The small country road had what appeared to be as much traffic coming and going as a busy city street in the downtown area," Jackson added.
Bird is leading the investigation and other arrests are possible.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies Ben Hodge, Adam Jarboe, Kentucky State Police Trooper K.Y. Fuson, and Jellico Police Officer Wayne Conrad assisted at the scene.
