Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputies charged a Williamsburg woman with assault last week for allegedly stabbing one of two men last month.
About 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Deputy Brett Reeves served Margie L. Claxton, 57, with an arrest warrant charging her with first-degree assault.
On May 5, Claxton allegedly stabbed Howard Coldiron with a knife in the lower abdomen causing serious physical injury, Sgt. Denny Shelley alleged in the arrest warrant.
The stabbing stemmed from an argument over milk for a baby. Claxton, Mark Rose and Ronnie Messer had allegedly gone to the store to pick up milk for a baby, and an argument ensued after they didn’t return until three hours later, Shelley said during an interview last month prior to obtaining the arrest warrant on May 21.
Claxton is also facing a first-degree assault charge stemming from an incident that happened on May 14 that Shelley also investigated.
Shelley arrested Claxton about 10:05 p.m. at a 990 Highway 92E residence, which is listed as the address for her and victim Mark Rose, according to an arrest citation.
Police received a call stating that Rose had been stabbed, and when Shelley arrived Rose told him that Claxton allegedly stabbed him but couldn’t say much else due to his condition, Shelley said.
Rose was stabbed in the upper left chest, which caused a collapsed lung.
After she was taken to the Whitley County Detention Center on May 14, Deputy Jailer Holly Dawn also charged Claxton with first-degree promoting contraband and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
During a search, Dawn discovered a folding knife in one of Claxton’s body cavities that had an approximately four-inch blade on it, Shelley said.
The knife was taken into evidence.
Claxton has pleaded not guilty to the May 14 stabbing incident, and a July preliminary hearing has been scheduled in that case.
