The Jellico Police Department is cracking down on illegal drug substances in the area.
Officers with the department worked three separate drug-related incidences in the span of several days.
Two of the cases were worked in part by a former Scott County deputy sheriff.
After 45 years of service as a deputy sheriff in Scott County, Officer Gary Sexton joined the Jellico Police Department less than 24 hours after his retirement.
During his first few days on the job, Sexton worked two separate drug-related cases.
The first case involved an overdose. Jellico Police Chief Gary Perkins and Captain Thomas A. Lay were dispatched along with Sexton to the intersection of Boy Scout Lane, according to a press release from the Jellico Police Department.
Upon arrival, all three officers had to administer Narcan and perform CPR on a white male who had overdosed, stated the release. After administering four doses of Narcan and continuous CPR, officers revived the male and determined the man had allegedly used heroin earlier in the day.
On July 22, Sexton was assigned to Lay for training. While they were patrolling in the early morning, they observed a vehicle sitting on the shoulder of the roadway on US 25W. The officers found the driver, Samantha Ivey of Lick Fork, to be in possession of alleged heroin, stated the release.
Ivey was arrested on charges for possession of a schedule one drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The third case worked by officers was on July 24. Lay noticed a vehicle in the parking area of Terry’s Spot and Pawn Shop. After interviewing the driver, which was identified as Joy Denise Partin of Clairfield, Tennessee, Lay located three hypodermic needles in the driver’s side door, stated the release. One of the needles allegedly contained a brownish liquid substance that Partin admitted was heroin.
Partin allegedly told Lay that, “she saved the heroin for early morning usage.”
The offense occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m., according to the release.
Partin was arrested on charges of possession of a schedule one drug (heroin) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
