Berea man dies in hunting accident near Keavy Tuesday

Date:

A Berea man who had become lost Tuesday while hunting near Keavy, was found dead Tuesday night.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said area law enforcement and emergency personnel spent approximately six hours searching for 69-year-old Stanley Wayne Pearson. His body was found about 6:41 p.m. at the bottom of a large embankment on a large tract of land on Martin Road, off of Ky. 312.

“The two men had come to the area to go squirrel hunting,” Acciardo explained. “They had separated and when the one came out of the woods about noon and his buddy didn’t show up, he reported him missing.”

Acciardo said Laurel County Department of Public Safety personnel, Laurel County Emergency Management personnel, London Laurel Rescue Squad and their K-9 dog, and Sergeant Robbie Grime and Deputy Brandon Broughton with the sheriff’s department took part in the search.

“It appears Pearson had a shot a squirrel and when he went down the bank to retrieve it, he slipped and fell, resulting in the fatal injury,” Acciardo said.
