Whitley Co. leads in 13th Region rankings

Whitley County Freshman Cooper Parman is third in statewide rankings for doubles this season. As a whole, the Colonels’ are ranked fifth in the state for team doubles, sixth for team triples, sixth for team RBIs, seventh for team strikeouts and second for team earned run average. Whitley County is ranked number one in statewide RPI. These rankings were as of 3:02 a.m. on April 28.

North Laurel Jaguars defeat Redhounds

North Laurel’s visit to Don House Field sent the Redhounds into the dog house. The Jaguars earned their second win over the Redhounds this season with a final of 2-1 on April 23. Early in the season, the teams met up at North Laurel where the Jaguars won 5-4. Corbin last defeated North Laurel on March 18, 2025. That game had a final score of 8-5.

Colonels take down the Redhounds at Don House Field

In the first meeting between the Corbin Redhounds and the Whitley County Colonels since the 2025 13th Region Championship, the Colonels took home a 10-2 victory. The story was reversed last season when Corbin defeated the Colonels 7-2 to clench the 13th Region title. The two teams met again Tuesday evening, but the final score was not available as of print deadline.

KY 2A Baseball State Champions

The Whitley County Colonels baseball team travelled to Owensboro for their shot to become the 2026 Kentucky 2A Baseball State champions. The trip was well worth it as the Colonels brought home the title following a 4-0 win over LaRue County. The team also defeated Murray and Glasgow during the tournament.

Area schools travel for Track and Field at Whitley Co.

Whitley County High School hosted schools from throughout the state for a track and field meet on April 20. Corbin, Williamsburg and Whitley County all had athletes compete in various events.  

Makenna Myatt qualifies for LPGA Girls Golf Championship

Corbin’s Makenna Myatt is headed to Pine Needles after her championship win at the 2026 Emma Talley Girls Tradition through the KYPGA Jr. Tour qualified her to compete at the LPGA Girls Golf Championship, according to the Corbin Boys Golf Team Facebook page.

Corbin’s JROTC earns second place at National Raider Challenge, five awards total

Corbin’s JROTC brought home second place in the National Raider Challenge All-Service Overall Male competition. Corbin’s Jon Norris received the Battle Fit Challenge Ironman Male Champion award. In the All Service Level category, they earned the following placements in the various events: 1st - Male PTT; 2nd - Male 5K; 7th - Male CCR; 7th - Male Gauntlet; 9th- Male Rope Bridge, according to the Raider Nationals Report.

Whitley County 14-0 win stings for Williamsburg

Coming off a Kentucky 2A Baseball State Championship win, the Whitley County Colonels handed the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets a 14-0 loss on April 20. The teams met up again April 21, but the game was not complete as of print deadline.

Lynn Camp goes 0-2 against W’burg

The Williamsburg Lady Jackets defeated the Lynn Camp Lady Cats, 15-13, on April 16. The two teams first met at the start of the season. Williamsburg took home the win on March 19 with a 26-25 victory.
